“Developing Great Players who Love Rugby”
Mini & Youth Committee
Dear parents and members
As we approach our 150th anniversary season, we wanted to share some important news and developments at our Club. Our overall aim is to continue to build and develop the skills and enjoyment of our children by taking our Club up another level. This season, after months of hard work alongside Quins FC, we are able to announce some unique and fantastic perks to being a member of Harlequins Mini & Youth.
Our relationship with Harlequins FC
As you know we have always had a unique relationship with Harlequins FC but this has been re-affirmed as the two parts of the Quins family are brought back together for the first time since rugby union turned professional. As a result we will be the primary focus for grassroots rugby at Quins as we align and develop the Harlequins FC purpose "to excite the world of sport through the Harlequin spirit" with our own ethos of "developing great players who love rugby". This reunion will be celebrated in a number of ways during the 150th anniversary year.
Brian Holland, Harlequins Rugby Development Officer
We are pleased to announce that Brian Holland, the Harlequins Rugby Development Officer, has joined us at the Club. Brian is a first class coach with a huge amount of experience who has been with Quins for over 10 years. He joins us to:
• lead our Girls Rugby programme,
• oversee the development of our Mini & Youth programme,
• lead our Mini & Youth coach education,
• coach our senior team
150th anniversary commemorative playing kit
Next season, and going forward, all of our players (mini, youth, seniors and vets) will be wearing the same strip as the Quins professionals. For the 2016/17 season, our players will wear the special 150th anniversary commemorative playing kit. This kit will be included in your membership package so please don’t rush out and buy a new strip for the kids for next season!
Quins Liaison Players
As well as our usual participation in the Guard of Honour at The Big Game and end of season home match, we are pleased to announce we will have Quins first team players visiting the club. We are currently in the process of organising when they will be available next season and will release details as soon as we know. In addition we will also be arranging other Quins coaching sessions (for our coaches as well as the kids).
We have become an RFU focus club and achieved RFU accreditation which will also help develop our coaching and the Club overall.
Launch of Girls Rugby Programme
We will be launching our Girls rugby programme for 11 year olds upwards from September. Girls under the age of 11 years will continue to train and play within our existing M&Y programme. More info on this will be forthcoming as we develop and plan this programme in detail.
Harlequins Mini & Youth Rugby Festival
As part of the 150th celebrations we will be holding our very own rugby festival in April 2017.
St Mary’s RFU Qualified Coaches
As always we will have the support of St Mary’s Students every week to help deliver the most up-to-date coaching and ensure the kids are inspired and having fun at every session.
2016/17 Membership Fees and other benefits
In order to help support all these developments we are making, our subs will be set at £170 for the season (£150 for siblings).
As well as the provision of a full playing strip (with a retail value of £70), all our members will be eligible for a retail discount with Harlequins (details to be provided soon) and will receive Quins Digital Membership.
