Second Half of the Season Disappointment

The beginning of the second half of the season did not start well for Quins as they went down 20-3 away to Quintin.

Having lost narrowly to Quintin at home two weeks ago Quins thought that they had a good chance to reverse their fortunes when they met at the Civil Service Ground.

But having a few injury problems exacerbated by further late injuries, none the less Quins were buoyant and raring to go, absorbing early pressure with a good defense, Quins then dominated the majority of the half in terms of territory and possession through good forward play and clever tactical kicks from George Jaques and Luke Povey.

Unfortunately Quins just couldn't turn any of the ball into points, after a series of penalties conceded Quintin made their way into Quins' 22 and after a couple of rolling mauls that were effectively stopped by the defense, Dave Love was penalised for being offside when clearly coming through the middle of the maul. Quintin finished off a simple overlap to go over into the corner, the conversion was missed and Quintin led 5-0.

Quins then camped in the Quintin 22 for the rest of the half, but still couldn't turn any pressure into points, all the luck seemed to be against quins, a very clever dink through by George bounced into touch with Tom Samuel and Giuseppe Moschetti in chase against no defenders, and the referee nullifying the choke tackle by refusing to call a maul.

Finally Quins got on the score board with George Jaques slotting a penalty, 5-3. That was how the first half ended.

The second half had the worst possible start with more bad luck, Luke Nugent taking the restart got the ball out wide with George looking to clear the lines only to find the face of an opposition player and ball going out on Quins 5m line.

Then some awful tackling saw Quintin's captain and 2nd row skip through 4 tackles to score, the conversion was missed, 10-3.

Quins' were becoming more and more frustrated with the referee's interpretation of the maul, which saw Paul Hibbert sin binned for lying on the wrong side of the ruck despite the tackle being held up for over 10 seconds, luckily, not for Paul, their scrum half was sin binned for punching Paul. Despite being directly in front of the referee it was only a yellow not a red.

Poor defence saw another overlap converted by Quintin into a try, 15-3. Then Giuseppe managed to combine brilliance with idiocy as he charged down a kick on Quintin's 5m line, collected the ball with the try line at his mercy and dropped the ball.

Another try for Quintin saw the score go to 20-3.

The last play of the game pretty much summed up the match, Jon Ede took the ball from a tap and go penalty and dropped the ball, Quins dominated possession and territory but through poor handling and inaccuracy meant that all that ball only became 3 points.

Next up we have West London at home and we need to get the 2nd half of the season, big numbers at training and for Saturday, please update you availability on your profile.
