With Quins turning up to this game with 11 players, with some lads at the vets' game and a late no show, we weren’t off to a good start. But thanks to a second row being borrowed from Feltham and Sean Gorman bringing down 4 players; Will Wheeler, Nick Tyler, Matt Smith and Danny O’Connor, we were ready to get things going. Unfortunately the ref wasn’t, he had turned up at Staines by mistake and when he did arrive, took one look at Rob Samuel, laughs and shows him a red.

Feltham kick off into the wind. Chris Addis receives, takes it up and our forwards ruck over, the ball is spread wide but dropped in the centers. The next ruck is turned over and Feltham throw a wide pass which is dropped but collected by their 13, whom the ref misses knocking on. He steps through our midfield and goes over for the first score. They miss the conversion and it restarts 5-0.
At this point, 7 minutes into the game, we realise that we hadn’t yet had the lock from Feltham start, so were in fact playing with 14 men. Feltham receive kick off and try for a Crossfield kick but it’s collected by James Addis.

We soon have our first scrum. Stewart picks from the back to be flattened. We win a penalty which Sean decides to try and quick tap but drops, the referee allows to retake. We go for a lineout but the ball is dropped at the front and subsequently knocked on. Feltham win their scrum and go for a clearance kick. Chris Addis collects and the ball is passed out to Povey, who takes it up but is left alone to be turned over.

Next ruck we are called in at the side, marched back 10 for chat and Feltham kick for a lineout inside our 22. Will gets up to disrupt and Quins collect. A penalty is given for not rolling and George kicks for a lineout on the Feltham 22. Will takes but 2 phases up and Quins are turned over, only to receive a penalty for not releasing on the next phase.

Kick for lineout on the 15 minute mark 10 meters out from the Feltham try line. A perfect front ball goes to Will and gets passed out wide to Alec, who carries a further 15 meters, dragging Feltham players with him. Sean picks and goes to get within 2 meters only for Will Wheeler to crash up next over the line for Quins first points. George adds to them with the conversion to make it 5-7.
17 minutes, Feltham kick off, ball gets back to George and he kicks for territory. Feltham slap down their won lineout on their 22 to cause a knock on giving Quins a scrum. Ball gets out to Alec who crashes up and Feltham give a penalty for playing the ball on the floor.

Sean throws over the top of the lineout 10 meters out and Feltham collect. They win a scrum from a forward pass and kick to clear behind. James Addis collects and takes up but Chris Addis is pinged for off his feet in the ruck. Feltham kick for lineout inside the Quins 22. It’s called not straight and Quins get their scrum. Simon Rowland picks and crashes up. James Addis take the ball at pace, carries another 12 meters but is left alone for Feltham to force a scrambled knock on.

Feltham get the ball out the back of the scrum, only for Sean to flatten their 9, causing a loose ball which Will Flaherty scoops up. It’s passed out to Luke Povey, who goose steps his way around 3 defenders and runs in a great try from 30 meters out. George adds the extras to bring it to 5-14.

Feltham kick off at 29 minutes. Sean receives, takes it in and Quins win a penalty for Feltham being offside. George kicks a huge kick to give us a lineout inside the Feltham 22. Front ball won to get passed out to Alec who runs in a try from just passed the halfway line, stepping through two tackles and taking a few players with him. Georges just misses the kick to bring the score line to 5-19.
Feltham kick off 31 minutes in. Will Flaherty takes and Sean crashes up, at this point the referee starts to switch allegiance to Feltham when Sean has a back pass called as a knock on. Feltham run a chip and chase from the midfield off their scrum. George collects to be called in touch as he’s running along the inside of the line. Will Flaherty makes a brilliant steal off the Feltham lineout and it’s passed into our midfield where Danny kicks downfield but doesn’t make much ground. Luckily Feltham give another penalty which, very uncharacteristically, George kicks dead.

Alec receives their drop out and passes out wide to Matt Smith. Sean picks and goes but without support gets turned over. Almost in the same movement Feltham knock the ball on and Quins win a scrum. The referee then decides to try and intercept Stewart’s pass off the back of the scrum with his head. Scrum reset. Quins win a penalty at this scrum and Sean takes a quick tap, Gareth crashes up followed by another attempt at a turnover and a knock on, Quins scrum.

Stewarts pass off the back gets slapped down but George collects loose ball. It goes hands out to Matt on the wing, who just misses out on a try in his first match as he’s tackled into touch with no arms attempted to wrap but the ref ignores this. Feltham overthrow their lineout and George collects, flings a long pass to Povey who steps through two defenders to run in a try from 15 meters. George misses the conversion to take it to half time and 5-24

Matt is brought off to make for Jake Walker. Quins kick off into the wind. Sean Gorman chases and makes the first tackle, with Will Flaherty competing for the ball leading to a Quins penalty for not releasing. Kick for Quins, lineout 12 meters from try line.
Will takes and Sean crashes up to within 2 meters out. George throws a pass out to Nick who doesn’t seem to attempt to catch the ball and it goes out into touch, but the ref calls it back for an offside. Quins scrum 6 meters out is won and Stewart passes out to Danny who knocks on for a Feltham scrum. Quins win the Feltham scrum as they seem to be revelling in having some weight in the front row, but the ref calls it back for another Feltham scrum.

This is reset 4 times to finally be won, they kick downfield but James Addis drops the high ball for a Feltham scrum they win their scrum and then Sean gets called offside whilst coming through the middle of a ruck. They take a tap penalty and run it through our 12 channel and two defenders to score. The successful conversion bring the score to 12-24.

Quins restart at to 60 minute mark. Feltham receive the ball and bring it through hands towards the wing when George intercepts the pass and takes it up to 10 meters out from the try line and we’re then given a penalty for hands in the ruck. Will wins a Quins lineout 5 meters out when Sean is called offside after taking the ball from our own ruck 2 minutes before.

Feltham kick for a lineout, still in their own half, the referee calls it as not straight. Quins win their scrum for the ball and reach Alec. He gets through 2 defenders, but when he’s taken down, the support is to slow to the breakdown and we suffer another turn over.
Feltham kick to clear and Quins win their lineout, George scoops up a sloppy pass to pass out to the centre, only for a very backwards pass to be called forward. Feltham win their scrum but Sean breaks to try an intercept only to knock on which the ref allows as accidental. Feltham take a quick tap, pass through some good hands only to be let down by their winger who allows the ball to fly into touch.

Quin’s lineout is lost due to a sloppy catch but Simon Rowland manages to snatch the ball and drop, but the ref calls it a knock on. Quins demolish the Feltham scrum at this point, definitely enjoying the extra weight in the front row. George kicks clear but it goes straight out so the lineout is called back to the Quins 22.

The Feltham lineout is not straight and Quins win their scrum. Wheeler goes off after rolling his ankle and Quins are down to 14 men for a while. Feltham win a penalty but they give away a scrum through a forward pass. Quins lose their first scrum of the game as Gareth taps the ball forward under the Feltham pack accidently. But then is almost instantly followed by a Quins penalty for Feltham not rolling away.

The Quins perform a text book lineout to be spread wide to Alec, but again the lack of support gets Alec blown up for not releasing. The Feltham 10 was looking for touch with the penalty but didn’t reach and James Addis collects under the high ball. He takes off at pace only to be tackled round the neck and Quins win a penalty.

A role reversal see’s Quins kick not reach touch but poor handling in the Feltham midfield causes George to take advantage of loose ball and just catch the 9 as he tries a box kick so it doesn’t go very far and Jake Walker collect and clears to halfway.

Feltham have made some substitutes now and their fairly hefty 14 crashes the ball up midfield James manages to steal a ball but is then turned over. They kick and chase a long kick right to our try line, Matt just misses the catch and then bounce but James manages after a hard graft to get all the way back to collect. Jake Walker rucks over like a 6 but when the ball is passed out, a knock gives Feltham a scrum but Quins push them off their own ball.

George’s clearance kick is run back with a chip and chase to our 5 metre line. Feltham win a penalty which they take as a quick tap and their 8 crashes over through a spread defence. Converted, the score stands at 19-24.

Wheeler comes back on at this point and a reshuffle with Simon Rowland leaving the pitch and Matt staying on. Quins restart at 79 minutes. A scrappy collection causes a knock on. Sean picks from the back and spread out for Povey to chip through but is obstructed but not noticed. Jake collects and then gets a penalty. Somehow at gone 80 minutes we’re allowed to kick for touch and Quins get a lineout 10 metres out.

At this point Sean Gorman is sin binned for back chat and adding to the booze kitty for end of season. But the lineout goes well and gets out to George Jaques to run it in 25 metres past 3 defenders under the posts and converts his own try to bring the score to 17-31 at full time.

Big thanks to the lads who came down and made a huge difference to our game and in fact allowed it to take place. And my man on the match would go to James Addis, for being everywhere on the pitch and picking up the tempo. And dick of the day would have to go to the only yellow card, Sean, though he did make a heroic effort of turn overs and rucking.
