The U12s showed an emphatic improvement in their all round play at Round 3 of the Middlesex League Gold Division. The opening match against previously unbeaten Ealing Trailfinders saw Quins dominate every phase of play to record a resounding 6-1 (30pts to 5) victory.
Quins had arrived in Regents Park with a big squad. Consequently, several of our youngsters volunteered to play for hosts Regents Park Royals in their opening game against Rosslyn Park. With young Ted Brampton doing a passable impersonation of Carlos Tevez, Mini Quins found themselves with just twelve players, but what a twelve they turned out to be! The driving play, support, rucking and even the passing had the watching coaches in raptures and Ealing had absolutely no answer. Josh was sparkling out wide and Frankie used his height and weight to full advantage through the middle. Great support play was a remarkable feature although a few scoring opportunities were frittered away with the, seemingly ingrained, ball under one arm and appalling one handed pass.
But it was really of no matter. The boys were playing what was in front of them: driving bodies off the rucks and securing turnovers in the mauls, it would inevitably lead to some cavalier moments but overall the boys did very well. It was a fabulous performance.
