Quins ams secure victory at the StoneX after late surge from Old Pats

With a nice and early meet scheduled at the club, the team jumped on the coach for a short trip up to the StoneX Stadium on Saturday.

With the skies grey and rain scheduled to fill the stadium, it was clear to see that the usual game plan of free flowing rugby for quins ams may have to change. a quick chat amongst players and coaches we knew that defense would be the key to success. with defensive structure being the key to our last few sessions it was the perfect time to put it into practice.

We kicked off the game and it was clear to see that we were our preparation was correct, big ball carrying from old pats meant we needed a quick defense to meet them head on. A massive loss in the early parts of the game Tommy Darcy had to leave the field after 4 minutes which turnt out to be a broken eye socket. But the Huge tackles from Aaron Hall, Jack Pearce, Dean Oliver, Chris Addis and the Major kept us moving in the first half, Winning multiple Jackal penalties. And the Midfield consisting of Jason Edmunds, Will Wood, Aaron Addis ensuring there was no missing links in the chain, not allowing players to break that midfield.

We took the first points of the game after an old pats high tackle at around the 30 minute mark. but it was the 38th minute Sean Oliver try that swung the momentum. Club Stalwart David Love noticing that the counter rucks were always on goes through the fullback, Dean Oliver catches on and joins in the fun. Dean counters and goes through the players sealing off the ball and picks up the loose ball on the ground. He runs over the oppo scrum half and realizes he cannot make that 50m run left to get to the try line. he passes out to his brother who gasses the flank to go and score the first try of the game. Conversion made, old pats 0 - Quins ams 10 to go into the half.

A few changes made at half time with the messages clear, continue with the defense and go and have fun and that's exactly what we did. Harry Stark leading the charge with our tip ons working around the defense, Sean Gorman, Kieffer Ebanks, Seb Turner and Chad Hodsgon breaking the old Pats defense down and gaining momentum. After a miss thrown lineout 10m out from the old pats tryline, Toby Whitaker picks up the loose ball, goes through the winger and scores for quins ams. Score now 7-17 to the ams.

After a little bit of a drop off we allowed Old Pats back into the game at the 75th minute mark, but the response from quins could not have been better. We kick off the their winger who runs directly into Toby Whitaker and Jack Pearce. the lads take man and ball eventually ripping the ball out and landing perfectly in Paul Hibberts Hands. Paul ran down the touch line to score in the corner securing the victory for quins ams in the final moments of the game.

Final Score 14 - 22.
