Harlequin Amateur’s landlord, The Hampton Wick Royal Cricket Club, submitted a full planning application for the new pavilion in June 2024.
The proposed building is on the same footprint as the original, which burned down just over a year ago, but will feel more spacious and feature hugely improved facilities.
The cricket club committee shared the plans with us pre-submission and the Quins Ams committee was happy to give them our overwhelming stamp of approval.
We were impressed with the bigger first floor entertaining area and the wrap around terrace, perfect for spectators and post-game relaxation.
There will be four rather than two changing rooms, creating space for two away teams as well as our own players. The changing area, which includes showers, will have its own corridor and feel more private than the previous changing rooms.
The build is expected to be completed by March 2026, but, in the meantime, its business as usual and the club continues to thrive.
The senior’s committee has done a sterling job arranging Wednesday night training on the floodlit pitch at Staines RFC and our home games are played at the St Mary’s Campus Site on Broom Road in Teddington. The super-friendly Tide End Cottage just down the road at Teddington Lock, is our temporary social home.
On Sundays, 9.30-12 the Mini and Youth teams continue to train and play at The King’s Field by Kingston Bridge in Hampton Wick. The King’s Field has its own toilets, limited on-site and plentiful off-site parking and is home to the Pistachio Café which serves hot drinks, snacks and cakes.
We give Harlequins regular reports on the new club house’s progress and have been grateful for their interest and support as we head into what is sure to be a wonderful new season!
