Sunday brought with it the tail end of storm Conall, conditions were ripe for plenty of slippery handling and dropped balls, however the Girls Under 14 team demonstrated a masterclass in fumble free rugby. Our guests on the Main pitch were a Wasps/Twickenham Cluster in a development friendly organised to prepare for the Surrey Cup starting in the New Year.
The game began as a cagey affair, with both teams cautiously finding their way in the match. A try for the Quins Ams/Teddington cluster (Tins) came from Millie C who finished off a fine move after 4 minutes, but this was quickly countered 5 minutes later by a breakaway try from the Wasps team. Some heavy downpours followed making ball control a challenge for both teams, but finally a quick double of tries from Zia B and a conversion from Millie C got us to halftime at 17 - 5.
The second half began with spells of good possession for both sides, but the quality of passing under pressure and good support at the breakdown allowed the Tins to stretch away from Wasps running in 5 unreturned tries and 3 conversions to see out the match 48 to 5.
The quality of the scrummaging, the open play handling including Quins style offloads and the support play from Tins was outstanding, with every player on the pitch contributing to a team effort that resulted in the best result of the season so far, despite the rain, wind and mud! COYQ
