Quins 19 - Reading 7
What a fantastic start to the new decade.
Fast, intelligent running rugby from all the boys.
Facing a large, solid pack from Reading, Quins U15’s played a controlled and tightly fought match throughout.
Our forwards worked hard to ensure quick-ball for the backs who then carried hard through the middle, gaining yards every time.
I can’t pick many individuals out as everyone played their best game of the year so far ;) but special mention to the entire front row (including Freddie, Mikey, Elliot CM and Elliot A) for holding, and often disrupting the much larger reading pack at the scrum. Daniel for another barnstorming game and a no. 8 pick-up from well inside his own half that he finished, incredibly, under the sticks for one of the best back-row solo tries I think I’ve ever seen!
Tom carried tirelessley and set up Elliot A’s try in the dying minutes whilst James at captain led by example throughout with his tireless workrate.
Thank you to Sam E for seeing the light and returning to the fold, we missed you. And to Albert who had his first run-out with us; initially in the back row and then at prop in a hard-hitting debut.
Cal fought hard at the breakdown to get the ball out quickly to our backs and Jack had the unenvious task of dodging a very dogged back-row (especially their no.6 who was Readings best player) but he managed to find space or get the ball quickly to our centre pairing of Josh and Sam who both had a brilliant match whether jinking their way forward or smashing the oppo backwards in defence.
Our back 3 of Issac, Theo and Tom were kept busy with Theo making yards everytime he carried and our wingers working hard in defence chopping down anyone that got round the fringes.
Man of the Match - Sam Elliot for running and tackling his heart out against a very strong, organised midfield
Well done boys. The difference today was that you never let your heads go down and saw the game through to the very end.
Training next weekend in preparation for our match against Teddington the following week - let’s make it a full house to really fine-tune those areas where we need to improve.
See you then,
