TRAINING - NICK EVANS LEADS A SESSION ON KICKING

A fantastic turn out of the U12s greeted Nick Evans (ex Harlequins and New Zealand fly-half), for a masterclass on kicking technique and kicking in attack - something a little special for this weeks Sunday training. A big thank you to Kai and family for offering and arranging to share the prize of a training session with Nick Evans, with all the U12s!

Separating into two groups, and after some energetic touch rugby warm-up building on the skills developed from the previous week, Nick began the kicking coaching session by teaching the 'chip' and the 'grubber' kicks. Bringing these skills into a game situation, Nick taught the U12s how to play 'Aussie Rules' rugby - a big hit with all and we suspect a regular game to be included in the warmup sessions from now on! Lots of targeted kicking and big catches was followed by some 'kicking in attack' drills, learning to kick through and chase a grubber kick to score a try.

Whilst Nick then repeated the kicking session with the second group of U12 players, the remaining U12s worked on developing direct, straight lines of running, making quick passes whilst running straight and at pace. All the newly learnt skills were brought togther for the last 20 minutes in a game of touch rugby, with some well placed kicking and some great direct running and passing.

Thank you to Nick Evans and his support team for treating the U12s to a very enjoyable mornings rugby and hanging around afterwards for photos, shirt signing and to have a chat. Great fun! Looking forward to another great weekends rugby next Sunday!
