After training at Chiswick last week, practice was needed on lowering the body position at the ruck. At the same time, we were working on protecting the ball when going into contact, to make sure the opposition cannot rip, and steel the ball in the tackle.
The topic of defensive line speed was also introduced. Rather than hanging back and watching the opposition, we practised pushing up quickly together in a line to defend. At the same time, the attacking team practised their quick passes, trying to get the ball through the hands as quickly and as far as possible. Tricky stuff, which they were all starting to get the hang of.
The matches at the end of the session worked on bringing these new and developing skills together.
Looking forward to the London Scottish festival next weekend. Please can you indicate your son/ daughters availablity in the Pitchero app!
