This week saw HARFC U11s travel to our regular autumn shared training session at the Bank of England grounds in Roehampton. Having been cancelled last year through too much rain, this years session almost succumbed to the same fate. However, the sun shone on a lovely morning - with the going good to soft!
After an initial warm up, the combined teams worked in groups through a series of drills and practises to help enhance the U11s attacking and defensive line positions. This meant communicating well within their teams to set up deep (or steep) lines of running in attack. In defence, the players were encouraged to practise 'holding the line' and pushing up towards the attacking team, ready to make that tackling.
There were very good examples of first up runners receiving the ball off the ruck and making good ground. In addition, when the tackles were made there was some excellent contests at the breakdown, with signs that the U11s were really starting to get the hang of recycling the ball and the benefits of contesting the ball at the breakdown.
A minutes silence was held at 11:00 for Remembrance Sunday with players from both teams coming together respectfully. The morning was rounded off with some great games, putting into practise the skills that had been worked on that morning. Thank you to Bank of England for a fantastic joint training session. We are at Broom Road next weekend for a home training session. See you all there.
