HARFC U11s travelled to Chiswick RFC anticipating a very wet joint training session. After some warm up games of touch, both Chiswick and HA teams were mixed together and then split into three groups. Each group worked in rotation on a passing drill, a tackling refresher and rucking/ mauling practice.
It is always interesting to learn of the strengths and coaching approaches adopted by other clubs and today's session was equally rewarding. Focusing on the correct body position in the tackle, the timing of the pass and supporting your team mates in the ruck, players from both clubs adapted well to the different coaching styles and observations.
The session, which luckily remained dry throughout, was rounded off with two excellent short matches. All teams worked hard on putting into practise the skills learnt earlier in the session. HARFC can now look to work on lowering their body positions in the tackle and then taking the ball to ground to form the ruck. It seems that the novelty of kicking has all but disappeared - for today anyway!
