HARFC U11s travelled to Twickenham RFC this week for a joint training session. A great turnout from Quins with over 30 U11s joining the session. After some warm up 'carrying' and 'wheel-barrowing', both Twickenham and Quins teams were mixed together and then split into groups. Each group worked in rotation on a series of passing drills and then a rucking practice.
Focusing on the correct body position and supporting your team mates in the ruck, players from both clubs adapted well to the different coaching styles and guidance. It was rewarding to see the players realise the benefits of controlling the ball in the ruck carefully, taking the ball to ground and creating space for the ball carriers to run into.
The session was finished off with some Twickenham and Quins mixed games, practicing the rucking developed from the first part of the session. Some excellent running rugby was played by all. Twickenham RFC were excellent hosts, providing a very enjoyable morning of rugby training - topped off with some well deserved hot dogs at the end!
Looking forward to a home training session back at Broom Road next week, where we may look to work on some targeted specific skills such as hooking in the scrum and a spot of kicking. See you all there!
