After missing last weeks training due to water logged pitches, it was great to see a big turnout from the U11s on fantastic sunny morning. With Lion's coach, Duncan helping out, training started with an agility warmup for all, working on side-steps with 'quick feet' through the poles and popping the ball at the end.
Splitting into two groups, half of the U11s worked on some tackling practice, to refresh those close contact skills. The other half of the team worked on quick passing along the line. Five U11 attackers had to pass the ball quickly and accurately down the line to allow the player out wide to score in the corner. Initially, one defender applied pressure to the attackers, but this was increased up to three defenders, which encouraged the attackers to put in some clean quick passes under pressure. Some good focus by all and hopefully developing a skill that the players can take forward to the upcoming festivals.
After switching skills groups, training as rounded off with some games. The focus of the games was to encourage good, low tackles and to then pass the ball wide from the breakdown. Some great rugby was played by all the U11s, which saw the U11s starting to get the hang of looking up and passing the ball into space.
Middlesex Festival at Wasps is scheduled for next weekend. Details are available on Pitchero - player selection and final arrangements will follow later in the week.
